How to Protect Yourself From Identity Theft in Stores

(NECN) - People across the country likely spent Thursday morning checking their receipts and their bank accounts after Target reported that 40 million customers may have been impacted in a data breach.

Steve Weisman is a professor at Bentley College and runs the website scamicide.com.

He joined us with some insight on what you can do to protect yourself in the wake of this massive data breach.

Weisman said that while it is important to check your credit, it’s also important to check it multiple times because a chance there is a delay before anything bad happens.

He said that the terminals that you use to swipe a card can be easily hacked.

He also said to just give your card to the clerk and have them run your card instead
