Registered NH Sex Offender Facing Assault Charges

GILFORD, N.H. (AP) - Police in Gilford say a registered sex offender has been charged with luring a pair of teenage girls to a secluded spot and trading alcohol for sex.

WMUR-TV reports 37-seven-year old David Ferland, of Laconia, was charged Tuesday. Police say he contacted the girls on the Internet and then used text messages to set up the encounter behind a local movie theater.

Gilford police say the parents of a 15-year-old girl found illicit text messages on a phone and contacted authorities.

Ferland was jailed without bail. He is charged with one felony count of sexual assault against one of the 15-year-old girls. It could not immediately be learned if he had a lawyer

Ferland was convicted in 2003 of child pornography charges and sexual assault of a teenager.
