Central Mass. Residents Shop, Ice Skate on Day After Christmas

(NECN: Tiffany Chan) - The Auburn Mall opened two hours early today to welcome shoppers on the hunt for a good deal. With fifty, sixty, and even seventy percent off discounts, it's no wonder why people are pouring in.

“I was here for the Macy's $10 shirt sale. I need some nice button down shirts. I'm just seeing my way around. Just seeing what everyone else has,” said one customer, Ryan O’Rourke.

For retail stores, the day after Christmas marks one of the busiest shopping days of the year according to the data company, Shoppertrak.

The massive year-end sales are so appealing that some waited until after Christmas to make gift purchases.

“Making a return and getting some gifts for some people we're going to see this weekend,” said another shopper, Craig Ellis.

Many spent their day indoors at the mall, while others brought their children to the rink to experience the snow and the holiday spirit even more.

“We knew it would snow really hard so we thought it'd be funny to get covered with snow,” said Mike Gaucher of Worcester.

Others just wanted to get a jumpstart on those New Year’s resolutions.

“We definitely like to get outside and work off all the food we ate the past couple days,” concluded Susan Ikeda of Middlebury.
