(NECN/WVIT: Ilana Gold) - Gun owners lined up at state police headquarters in Middletown, Conn. all day Sunday to comply with the state's new gun laws prompted by the Sandy Hook shootings.
Gun control advocates pushed for stricter regulations hoping to cut down on gun violence.
But this crowd isn't happy about it.
"Ridiculous to me," said Bob Gonyo of Meriden.
They were there to register their assault weapons and high capacity magazines, and the deadline is December 31. If they don't have proof of purchase, they need to get a notarized affidavit.
"I didn't really think it was necessary," said Kelley Hanke.
Hanke spent her afternoon there, and she says the process is more than just an inconvenience.

"Going a little too far in gun control."
But there's a rush to follow the rules with the deadline fast approaching. State police tell WVIT roughly 10,000 people have registered their guns and ammunition in the last week.
"We're glad that people are abiding by the law," said Lt. Paul Vance.
And they expect more long lines here through the end of the year.
These gun owners have to accept the lines as a result of the new process.
"But if it's gonna try to help somebody else get to the root of the problem, I'm willing to do it," said Hanke.
