Tsarnaev Lawyers to Seek Delay in Trial at Status Conference

(NECN) - The case against surviving Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is back in court Wednesday.

A status conference is set for 10:00 a.m.

Tsarnaev won't be in court.

His attorneys are pushing for a delay in the start of the trial, wanting it to start in 2016.

This follows the decision by Erick Holder to pursue the death penalty in the case.

The government said it expects Tsarnaev's trial to last three months, then another six weeks for the penalty phase.

Tsarnaev is accused in the April 15 bombings that killed three and wounded hundreds, as well as the killing of an MIT police officer.
