(NECN: John Moroney, Milford, Mass.) - A 21-year-old Milford, Mass. woman faced a judge Monday for allegedly causing a drunk driving crash that sent a minivan with children inside onto a frozen pond just off I-495.
Elizabeth Facey, a 21-year-old mother, is now charged with causing the accident while operating her own vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
"It angers me, because it doesn't seem like they think it's a big deal, and it is," said Linda George, whose daughter was injured in the crash.
Police said when the arrived at the scene, they found the defendant's vehicle in the intersection, and her 3-year-old child in the back seat, unharmed.
In the minivan, they found 33-year-old Aimee Mercer, two of her children aged 4 and 14, and her daughter's teenage friend.
They're convinced the frozen pond saved their lives.
Two of the occupants of the minivan suffered minor injuries. Another sustained more serious ones. Everyone in the minivan was able to get out safely before police arrived.
The driver says she's very grateful to those people who stopped to help.
The Massachusetts Department of Children and Families is involved in the case.
