Doctor: Measles Is One of the Most Contagious Viruses

(NECN) -  Framingham health officials have expanded a measles alert for the Metrowest area.

The city's public health director says both Massachusetts residents who are infected with the virus were in Framingham when they were contagious.

One person is a Spencer resident who works at the Bose Corporation.

The other is a Framingham resident who was at Trader Joe's on Feb. 15 and 16 and had dinner at samba on the 15th between 5:30 and 9:00 p.m.

Health officials in spencer would not comment on where else the infected resident there had been while contagious.

For more on the measles outbreak we brought in Doctor Daniel Kuritzkes, chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

He said that measles is one of the most contagious viruses there are because it causes people to cough and droplets from an infected person can remain in a room for four hours.

He said that there are two vaccinations that people should get. He said people should get one around 15-months-old and another before start school and that should help a person for their life.
