Fight Or Flight: Understanding the NYC Subway Tragedy

(NECN) - A homeless man has been charged in the death of a man pushed in front of an oncoming New York subway train.

Naeem Davis has been ordered held on bail. He faces second-degree murder charges in the death of Ki-Suck Han.

The victim's family is now speaking out about the fact that no one at the crowded subway station reached out to help save him.

"The thought of someone helping him up in a matter of seconds would've been great but, yeah, like I said... what happened has happened," Ashley Han said.

A photographer has also come under fire for snapping a picture of the victim just before he was hit by the train. That man claims he was using his flash to alert the train's driver.

So what causes someone to be an active, potential life-saving bystander as opposed to a passive one?

Is this an inherent part of the psyche or is it spontaneously triggered by an event?

Ryan Madigan, Psychologist at Boston University's Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders, joined "The Morning Show" to offer some insight to the case.
