Gabrielle Giffords' Doctor Discusses Medicine in Worcester

(NECN: Melissa Toupin, Worcester, Mass.) - Dr. Imo Aisiku grew up in Worcester, but his career took him to Texas where he is the chief of critical care at the University of Texas at Memorial- Hermann Hospital.

His most famous patient is congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

The Congresswoman suffered a gun shot wound to the head back in January when a gunman opened fire at a Tuscon grocery store where she was meeting with voters.

The shooting killed 6 people but amazingly Giffords survived.

On Wednesday the doctor returned to his roots to discuss developments in the field of neuroscience and to encourage others to go into medicine.

His audience was a group of students at Worcester State University- where nearly 20 years ago he was a student himself.

Doctor Aisiku says it was here at Worcester State that he discovered his passion for the sciences which eventually led him into medicine.
