Mass. Gov., Wildlife Officials to Gather Data on Black Bear Population

(NECN: Brian Burnell, Belchertown, Mass.) – Mass. Governor Deval Patrick and state environmental officials gathered data Thursday morning on the Bay State's black bear population in Belchertown, Mass.

Every year, officials at the center put GPS tracker on black bears to keep track of the population.

The data will be used to study population, health, and welfare.

The data collection started to in 1970, when the population was around 100. The population has since grown to 4,000 in Mass.
