CDC Report: 1 in 68 Children Have an Autism Spectrum Disorder

(NECN) – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have found that an estimated 1-in-68 children have an autism spectrum disorder, a 30-percent increase from two years ago.

The research also shows that autism is almost five times more common in boys than girls.

Ann Neumeyer is the medical director for the Lurie Center for Autism at Mass. General Hospital for Children and she joined us for more on the subject.

She said the numbers are significant because it shows the increasing need to address the increasing number of children diagnosed with autism.

She said that the range of cases of autism spectrum disorders can vary as people can have different forms of it.
