Daily Hampshire Gazette: ‘Blarney Blowout' Cost Over 200K

(NECN) – According to the Daily Hampshire Gazette, the “Blarney Blowout,” the large pre- Saint Patrick’s Day celebration in Amherst, cost over $200,000 after it spiraled out of control.

More than 70 people were arrested after police arrived in riot gear at the apartments near the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Some students say police were too rough when attempting to disperse the crowd.

According to the paper, the price tag comes from public safety, consultant fees and property damage.

The paper reports that other costs include hospital emergency care, private property damage and more.

The university warned students that police would have an increased presence.
