(NECN) - A young Rhode Island boy who's been battling leukemia has underwent successful surgery.

Seven-year-old Tyler Seddon underwent a procedure that decreased his leukemia cells.

Seddon's mother, Rachel, posted the information regarding the surgery to her Facebook page Monday night.

"Doctors just told me Tyler's leukemia cells are finally decreasing!!! The power of prayer is amazing!!!"

Police swore-in Tyler Seddon as police chief for the day, and held a large celebration for him in Burrillville, Rhode Island in honor of his seventh birthday earlier this month.

In addition to his new title, Seddon was driven around in a cruiser and was guest of honor at a birthday party attended by hundreds of firefighters, police officers, and first responders from several states.
