(NECN: Alysha Palumbo, Boston) - They’ve already been together through sickness and in health, but Thursday Marc Fucarile married his childhood sweetheart Jen Regan.
Just to be able to walk down the aisle is a big deal for Marc, who lost his right leg in last year’s Boston Marathon bombing. But after a year of surgeries and intense physical therapy, the couple tied the knot at historic Fenway Park, carried away in marathon-themed blue and yellow duck boats – just two days after the anniversary of the events that forever changed their lives.
"They’ve had a very trying year and we’re very proud of them and so happy to be celebrating today," Julie Callahan, Marc's cousin, said.
"It’s amazing everything they’ve gone through and all the support the public has given to support them to be here tonight it’s a great feeling," Dan Callahan, Marc's uncle, said.
They gave emotional and heartfelt vow.
“One of the lines was ‘When you fall I will catch you, when you cry I will comfort you,'" said the Justice of the Peace who married them, Elizabeth Brennan Gemelli.
And standing beside them was their son, 6-year-old son Gavin, beaming with pride.

In addition to all their friends and loved ones, Marc and Jen shared their special day with fellow survivors Paul and J.P. Norden and some of the nurses who helped in their recovery.
"I’m grateful to be able to see his recovery and be part of a new beginning for them both," Massachusetts General Hospital nurse Emily Erhardt said.
Even tourists were touched by their love story, catching a glimpse of them taking wedding photos on the Red Sox dugout.
Mary Churchill, who was visiting the park from Connecticut, said, "That’s so awesome. I’m so happy for them!"
"It’s so special, especially knowing what happened a little over a year ago," said her son Greg, who took a picture of the happy couple.
And although this couple has already been through thick and thin together, Marc’s uncle says they haven’t lost their humor. Marc left guests laughing during the ceremony.
His Uncle Dan said, "Marc was going to run away but he couldn’t he said, if he had two legs he would!"
The wedding was put on by Gracie Lou Events after a contest called "Love Runs Through Boston" - where marathon survivors were invited to share their stories for the chance to win an all expenses paid wedding.
The reception is being held at Hotel Commonwealth - coincidentally the 25 mile marker of the marathon.
