On Saturday around 12:40 a.m., a motor vehicle stop in Salem, New Hampshire resulted in a car chase over state lines.
Officer Adam Pearson attempted to arrest the operator of a vehicle on Main Street. When the man actively resisted arrest, Officer Pearson deployed his Taser. The man knocked the Taser out of the officer’s hands and drove off at a high rate of speed with his two passengers in the vehicle.
Salem officers followed the vehicle into Haverhill, Massachusetts, down Route 495, and into Lawrence. The vehicle came to a stop on Essex Street when one of the tires was blown out.
All three individuals exited the vehicle. With no back-up, Officer Pearson approached them. The operator charged at him and was able to take control of the officer’s cruiser.
Officer Pearson was able to detain the two other suspects until Lawrence, Salem, and the Massachusetts State Police arrived on scene.
The cruiser was found a short distance away with no damage and all of its contents.
The operator, Robert Zygarowski, 52, later walked into Ted's Mobil on Route 28 and Methuen and indicated that he had weapons and he was going to shoot police. The clerk called police and Zygarowski was arrested shortly after this.

He was charged with two counts of simple assault, two counts of resisting arrest, reckless operation, disobeying an officer, and criminal restraint. Zygarowski refused the services of the bail commissioner and will be arraigned on June 23.
