2nd Person Dies Following Multi-Family Home Fire in Fitchburg, Mass.

Firefighters responding to the Walton Street home just after midnight Wednesday found flames on the second floor at the building's rear

Authorities confirm that a second person has died following an early morning fire in a multi-family Fitchburg, Massachusetts, home Wednesday, according to the State Fire Marshal's Office.

Firefighters responding to the Walton Street home just after midnight Wednesday found flames on the second floor at the building's rear.

Chief Deputy David Gravel says firefighters found one man who had been overcome by smoke on the home's second floor. As he was being carried out, he regained consciousness and told firefighters there were two people still inside.

Firefighters re-entered the home and found two women, one unconscious and one already dead. The second woman passed away at a hospital.

No names were released but authorities say all three people are related and in their 60s.

Gravel says the cause is under investigation.
