3 Accused MS-13 Gang Members Waive Bail

The alleged MS-13 gang members appeared in court Tuesday and chose to waive their detention

Three alleged members of a violent international street gang who were charged in a sweeping indictment in and around Boston have agreed to waive bail.

The Boston Globe reports the alleged MS-13 gang members appeared in court Tuesday and chose to waive their detention, meaning they will be held without bail pending their trial.

Federal prosecutors said last month that 56 members of the gang were charged with racketeering, drug trafficking and other offenses. The three alleged members were the first to appear for a bail hearing.

Their lawyers say they temporarily waived the hearing because they want to review more of the evidence against their clients before challenging their detention.

U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz's office has sought to detain all of those charged pending trial.
