3-Alarm Fire Tears Through Back of 3-Decker in Boston

A 3-alarm fire ripped through three floors of a multi-family home Saturday night in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood.

The fire broke out at a 3-decker at 8 Monticello St. Crews responded around 8 p.m.

The blaze, which was on the porches on the rear side of the building, damaged the building badly.

Boston Police Officer Luis Lopez was the first on the scene and started kicking open doors to rescue people sleeping inside.

One firefighter was transported with a back injury, but no one else was hurt.

Officials estimate that the fire caused about $500,000 in damage.

In all, 18 people, including four children, were displaced.

In neighboring Roxbury Saturday, a fire is believed to have displaced 22 people.
