Five people, two of whom were airlifted, were taken to hospitals after a three-vehicle crash Sunday in Keene, New Hampshire.

Officials say 86-year-old William Thomas of Marlborough was driving south in the northbound lane of Route 12 when he hit an SUV driven by 40-year-old Jennifer Luse of Keene. Eighty-year-old William Hamlin of Springfield, Virginia, then crashed into both vehicles.

Police responded around 3 p.m. Thomas was entrapped in the vehicle, but was extricated. He and a passenger in Luse's vehicle were both taken to Cheshire Medical Center with critical injuries before being transported by Life Flight helicopter to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

Luse suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Cheshire Medical Center. Two children in her SUV were also transported there for precautionary measures.

Hamlin and his wife were not hurt.

The road was closed as police investigated the crash, but was reopened around 5:30 p.m.
