Under a new plan, the Tobin Bridge will undergo major construction beginning next year.
State transportation officials approved the $41 million project Monday.
Beginning April 2018, construction will take place from spring to fall for the next three years.
Commuters will be affected mostly by work in northbound lanes on the lower deck headed into Chelsea.
