Toddler Hit By Car After Darting Into Road

Child thrown 16 feet, in stable condition

A 3-year-old girl was struck by a car Thursday evening when police said she darted into the road in Worcester, Massachusetts.

The girl, who was thrown about 16 feet on impact, suffered injuries to her head and face. She was taken to an area hospital and is in stable condition, according to Worcester Police.

The driver, who stayed at the scene and cooperated with police, is a 57-year-old woman from Douglas, Massachusetts.

The girl's mother, who was with the child, was not injured in the accident.

Police responded to the accident, at 38 Ames St., at 5:44 p.m. and found the child conscious and alert. The car was traveling north on the road when the child ran into the car's path and was hit by the driver's side front bumper, police said.

The Worcester Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating.

Police have not issued a citation at this time.
