1 Hurt, Dozens Evacuated in Assisted Living Facility Fire

The fire at the Laurel Avenue facility broke out around 4 a.m.

Dozens of residents of a Coventry, Rhode Island, assisted living facility had to be evacuated after a fire filled the building with smoke, and one was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Fire authorities say the blaze at Summer Villa was reported at about 4 a.m. Friday.

Chief Robert Warren said the fire started on the second floor and when firefighters arrived, the facility was filled with smoke and some residents were still inside.

He confirmed one person was taken to the hospital.

The other residents will be taken to another facility.

The cause remains under investigation.
