31 Displaced in Multi-Alarm Fire

Firefighters say it appears to have started in a kitchen and spread quickly

Thirty-one people have been displaced after a multi-alarm fire broke out at a three-story home in Lawrence, Massachusetts.

The fire at Elm Street broke out early Thursday morning.

Firefighters say the blaze was accidental, due to a plumbers torch.

They are still waiting on the building inspector to determine if this is a total loss, but it is expected to be.

Mayor Dan Rivera said this was the home he grew up in.

He said, "This is the first house we lived in when we first came to Lawrence so it's sad to see."

Firefighters spent hours at the scene putting out hot spots. Two were treated for minor injuries.
