4 Injured in Boston Shooting

All injuries non-life-threatening; suspect in custody

Four people were shot early Sunday morning outside a restaurant in Boston’s Chinatown. The suspect in the shooting is in police custody.

Boston Police were on patrol when the heard what appeared to be gun shots around 2:55 a.m. outside Moon Villa Restaurant on Edinboro Street.

Two victims were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, one to Tufts Medical Center, and one to Boston Medical Center. Police say all of their injuries appear to be non-life-threatening.

Officers saw a suspect fleeing the scene and pursued him on foot. After a brief chase, the officers caught him and identified him as Melvin Smith, 27.

Police retrieved a gun as a result of the pursuit. Investigators later found a second weapon in a black Lexus near the crime scene.

Smith has been charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon. He was perviously known to police. 

During the pursuit, an officer's firearm was discharged, but preliminary investigation shows no one was injured as a result of that shot.

The investigation is on-going.
