4 More Potential Victims in Mass. Child Rape Case at Day Care

As an investigation into disturbing allegations of child sexual assault continues at a Massachusetts college's day care center, the number of potential abuse cases has grown to six.

Kyle Loughlin, a 21-year-old student at Bridgewater State University who worked at the school's Children Center, was arrested Wednesday, charged with raping two boys between the ages of 4 and 5.

Authorities now say they are looking at possibly four other cases - even as more of the suspect's background comes to light.

The MertoWest YMCA says Loughlin worked at its summer camp in Hopkinton for the four years. That organization would only say it conducted thorough background checks on Loughlin, as it does with all it employees.

Court documents show that workers at the Children's Center at Bridgewater State University started having suspicions last month, with one teacher telling police she thought Loughlin was "very odd."

The worker says she notified the lead teacher, as well as Judith Ritacco, the director of the center.

One teacher told police that the director "was on the fence" about what she wanted to do in terms of reporting the incidents.

Saturday, the director contacted campus police.

Loughlin was arrested Wednesday. He is due in court for a dangerousness hearing Monday, April 13.

Ritacco was placed on leave by Bridgewater State University. Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester, where she teaches psychology, has also placed her on leave.

Bridgewater State University confirms the Children's Center will be closed next week, and that surveillance cameras are being installed.
