$40 Million Bump Proposed for Boston Public Schools

Mayor Marty Walsh says the new budget provides money for programs that support children in need of alternative or additional services

Mayor Marty Walsh and superintendent Tommy Chang have proposed a budget of more than $1 billion for Boston Public Schools in the next fiscal year.

Walsh says the new budget provides money for programs that support children in need of alternative or additional services.

This $40 million increase, which would take effect July 1. will provide funding for extended days at 39 more schools, expanded vocational education and new resources for students who are homeless.

The school committee will hold a series of public hearings over the next few months before the final vote is made in March.
