5-Alarm Fire Breaks Out at Vacant Mill; Firefighter Injured

One firefighter was injured battling a massive 5-alarm fire at a vacant mill in Providence, Rhode Island, Tuesday morning.

Fire officials say the fire at the building located near Kinsley Avenue and Sims Avenue started around 11:30 Monday night.

Crews from 13 communities were called in, including some from Massachusetts.

Thick black smoke filled the air, blocking out the skyline of Providence, and being smelled as far away as Massachusetts. Smoke that was still billowing from the building more than 10 hours after the fire started.

A medical marijuana growing facility attached to the mill also suffered extensive water damage, no fire damage.

The injured firefighter suffered a shoulder injury, but will be alright.

Plummeting temperatures caused some water flow and power issues.
