5 Injured After Car Crashes Into Pole

The crash occurred around 2:20 p.m. Thursday on state Route 15 near the Colchester college

Officials say five people were injured, some seriously, after a car crashed into a utility pole near St. Michael's College in Chittenden County in Vermont.

The crash occurred around 2:20 p.m. Thursday on state Route 15 near the Colchester college.

A witness told The Burlington Free Press that the utility pole snapped in half and "crushed" the vehicle.

Officials say Green Mountain Power was able to prevent the loss of power to those in the immediate area.

Lt. Douglas Allen says the driver of the car suffered "significant injuries" and needed to be extricated from her vehicle. She was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center for treatment.

Allen says four others in the car were taken to the same hospital with injuries ranging from minor to serious.
