7-Year-Old Shot Over Memorial Day Weekend Released From Hospital

7-year-old Divan Silva also got a special surprise from a Pats star

A 7-year-old boy who was shot over Memorial Day weekend was discharged from the hospital Wednesday evening as Boston police continue their investigation.

Four days ago, 7-year-old Divan Silva was taken by officers from a Dorchester sidewalk and rushed to Boston Children's Hospital with a gunshot wound to his backside.

The youngster from Brockton, Massachusetts, was riding his bike near his grandmother's home on Bowdoin Street when he was caught in stray gunfire. Authorities say five shots were fired in all.

Silva was hit in the buttocks and went down bleeding on the sidewalk. He underwent surgery at Children's Hospital over the weekend and was released Wednesday evening after recovering.

A 20-year-old man was also grazed by a bullet as a result of gunfire. He's expected to be okay, too.

Meanwhile, Divan and other children receiving treatment at Children's Hospital got a special surprise when New England Patriots' tight end Rob Gronkowski paid a visit earlier on Wednesday.

Still, the brazen act of violence involving the young boy has outraged almost everyone and has prompted a public plea for help in finding the suspect.

Police describe the suspect as a heavy-set male, 5-foot 8-inches and between the ages of 14 and 18. He was last seen wearing a red hoodie, white shorts and white sneakers. He apparently fled in a white, four-door sedan.

The young boy's mother issued a statement on Tuesday thanking people for their support and asking anyone with information to come forward.
