Emmy-winning actress and Rhode Island native Viola Davis returned to her native Central Falls on Saturday.

According to WJAR-TV, Davis took part in a groundbreaking ceremony for a community health care facility on Broad Street.

The forty-seven thousand square foot Neighborhood Health Station will replace the Blackstone Valley Community Health Care's current Notre Dame building and provide a myriad of services.

"I don't think the door should slam in the face of people who don't have finances, I don't think doors should be slammed in terms of healthcare,” Davis told WJAR.

Davis joined other local dignitaries at the groundbreaking, including her mother who pushed for access to healthcare in Central Falls in the 70s.

"My mom fought through the Blackstone Valley Community Action Program to have a health clinic in Central Falls so that working poor and poor people had access to something," said Davis.

The new $15 million center will is expected to be completed by early 2018.
