A break from the heat and humidity is on the way! Dew points climbed into the 70s over the last two days with temperatures in the upper 80s and 90s. It didn’t take much to break a sweat when you were outside. Expect dew points to take a dive into the 50s later this evening and tonight. Open the windows and let the house air out. Yesterday, Boston recorded its 7th 90°+ day of the year. On average the city of Boston typically experiences 13 days at or above 90°.
Thunderstorms yesterday were also severe in metro west and for parts of the north shore. When an air-mass is so tropical, it doesn’t take much to pop a shower or thunderstorm. That one lone thunderstorm produced a total of 41 severe weather reports!
During the early morning hours we JUST missed out on a second round of severe weather. In western Monmouth county New Jersey, the National Weather Service is surveying damage from a possible tornado – several buildings were damaged and cars were over turned. Heavy rain caused flooding – even in parts of southeastern Massachusetts (near Wareham and Fall River).
This heat, humidity, flooding and severe weather is courtesy of the remnants of Cindy. Thankfully a powerful cold front kept Cindy moving – if not, it could have been a very active few days ahead. Our weather will be fairly quiet over the next couple of days. An upper level trough will move through trigger a few inland showers (maybe a rumble) Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Dew points remain low through midweek.
By the end of the forecast period, the heat and humidity make a return. Stay tuned!
