Animal Control Rescues at Least 17 Cats From Home

The property has been condemned

Officials say at least 17 cats have been rescued from a Springfield, Massachusetts, house.

Thomas J. O'Conner Animal Control and Adoption Center Supervisor Hannah Chapman say the adult cats and kittens were found at the house in the city's Liberty Heights neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon.

Chapman says a few additional cats remain on the property. Animal control officers have set traps and hope to catch the remaining cats by the end of Wednesday.

She says feces and trash were found inside the property, but the cats don't appear to be sick or feral. The property has been condemned.

A vet will examine the cats to make sure the animals are healthy. The group hopes to put the cats up for adoption.
