Apartment Fire Displaces 43 in Auburn, Mass.

Officials say the fire was sparked by a six-year-old boy playing with a cigarette lighter

The Auburn, Massachusetts, Fire Department responded to an apartment fire that left 43 people homeless on Friday morning.

When crews arrived on the scene on Fourth Street, heavy smoke and flames could be seen billowing from the buildings's fourth floor.

According to officials, the fire was sparked by a six-year-old boy playing with a cigarette lighter. The boy sett the fire in his bed.

Everyone inside was able to make it out safely. One firefighter was injured. The building was severely damaged.

A cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

The Red Cross is assisting at the scene with those who have been dispalced.
