Appearing very confused in court, 36-year-old Karen Edwards of Brooklyn, New York was charged with murder in the stabbing death of her husband Collins Edwards inside this Wensley Street apartment in Roxbury just after midnight Friday.

Prosecutors said the couple who had been married about a year had gotten into a fight, and the victim’s mother called 9-1-1 to say her son had been stabbed in the chest by his wife.

The prosecutor said, “The defendant said she was going to stab her husband and went into the kitchen, grabbed a large knife from the knife block.”

Edwards continued to interrupt prosecutors and the judge in court, as a not guilty plea was entered on her behalf.

“Doctor can I see you please?” asked Edwards in court.

Edwards was examined by a forensic psychologist and her attorney John Miller said it’s unclear what she remembers about what happened overnight.

Miller said, “She was evaluated by the court clinic and there appears to be some very serious mental health issues and she will now be evaluated by the Solomon Carter Fuller Mental Health Center to determine her competence to stand trial and to determine the issues of criminal responsibility.”

Edwards is being held without bail pending that mental health evaluation.

She’s due back in court October 27, 2016.
