Authorities Investigate String of Suspicious Fires in Portland, Maine

Portland's police and fire departments are investigating a half-dozen suspicious fires that took place in the early morning hours in the city's East Deering neighborhood.

Authorities say the first fire was reported just before 2 a.m. on Tuesday when trash was set on fire off of Baxter Boulevard. The second fire involved a pile of discarded Christmas trees in Payson Park. Four more fires were discovered in dumpsters and trash cans.

The Portland Fire Department quickly extinguished all of the fires and there were no injuries or significant damage to structures. Police say all of the cases are being investigated.
