BPD Commissioner: Shot Officer is “Doing Great”

There are positive signs of recovery for the Boston Police officer who was shot in the face during a traffic stop

There are positive signs of recovery for the Boston Police officer who was shot in the face during a traffic stop in the city's Roxbury neighborhood just three weeks ago.

Boston Police Commissioner William Evans says Officer John Moynihan is not only doing well back home, but was even feeling well enough to get out of the house.

Evans said, "He's doing great. I was with him this weekend, and he went to a hockey game for about an hour on Saturday. He’s a very lucky man, and I’m happy to report that he's doing very well."

Moynihan, who was honored in 2013 for his role in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings, was conducting a traffic stop on March 27 in the city's Roxbury neighborhood when a man exited his vehicle and shot the officer under his right eye. Surveillance video of the incident was later released.

He had surgery to remove the bullet from below his ear.

The suspect, later identified as Angelo West, was killed in a shootout with police.
