    A person wasa rescued from a basement fire Monday in Newton, Massachusetts.

    Fire officials confirm the blaze broke out in the basement of 1182 Walnut St.; the fire has since been knocked down.

    One person was trapped in the basement, and fire crews had to work to gain entry. That person was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in unknown condition.

    The first floor of the building is a coffee shop, and there are two residential floors above it. Six residents were being evacuated from the apartments.
