Bat in Maine Tests Positive for Rabies

Residents in Bath are being urged to check their pets' vaccinations are up to date

Bath residents are being urged to make sure their pets' vaccinations are up to date after a rabid bat was found in town.

Bath's animal control officer Ann Hartford responded to a report a week ago of a bat on the ground, unable to fly

Police tell The Times Record that Hartford captured the bat and brought it to Coastal Veterinary Care Center where it was euthanized.

The bat was brought to the Health and Environmental Testing Lab in Augusta where it tested positive for rabies earlier this week.

Police said Thursday that they are not aware of any domestic animals being exposed.
