Bedbugs Cause Temporary Move of Several Augusta City Workers

City officials say a General Assistance administrator taped a bedbug to her desk at Augusta City Center

Officials in Maine's capital city say bedbugs were found in three city offices.

City officials say a General Assistance administrator taped a bedbug to her desk at Augusta City Center.

A bedbug-detecting dog confirmed there were bedbugs in that office and in the offices of community services director Leif Dahlin and parks, cemeteries and trees director Charlie McCann.

All have been moved up a floor. Officials estimate city workers will return in about a month.

No bedbugs were detected anywhere else in the building.

Bedbugs had been reported at two privately owned boarding houses in May.

City councilors adopted an emergency law requiring tenants to alert landlords of bed bugs. Landlords must also give the city a decontamination plan.
