Suspicious Package at Bertucci's in Beverly, Mass. is a “Hoax Device”

The Massachusetts State Police bomb squad has cleared the package

According to the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad, the suspicious package is a "hoax device."

The Beverly Police Department and State Police reponded to Bertucci's Restaurant at 27 Enon St. in Beverly, Massachusetts on Monday afternoon right after an employee reported finding a suspicious device.  The initial call was reported to Beverly Police just after 4:30 p.m.

Patrons and employees from the restaurant, in addition to surrounding businesses were all evacuated as a precaution.

Chief John LeLacheur of the Beverly Police Department says the package was suspicious because it had wires coming out of it, it was attached to a cell phone cae and possibly had some type of switch on it.  It was also left there for some time until one of the waitresses found it.

Members of the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad entered the restaurant and investigated the device deeming it not to be a hazard. 

The hoax device was removed from the restaurant and an all clear was given at 6:45 p.m.

All business were allowed to re-open, with the exception of Bertucci's which will remain closed tonight.

An investigation is on-going.
