A survivor of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings has taken her first steps in Texas using a new prosthetic limb.

Walking is a task many adults couldn't think twice about, but for Rebekah DiMartino, each step is like a mini miracle, one victory after the other.

She's standing on a new leg, which means new possibilities in her life, a life that was almost cut short back in 2013 at the Boston Marathon.

DiMartino and her family were just feet away from the finish line as two bombs exploded.

She said, "For me to be that close to something that could have destroyed me and it only allowed me to be stronger."

She added, "The day that I made the decision to chop it off is the best thing I have ever done for myself, because I was letting go of what was holding me back."

Letting go was the only way to move forward. Now she gains strength from her trainer, who's also an amputee, and she gets support from her family.

Her mom, Tina Gregory, has a special message she has designed for Rebekah's new athletic prosthetic leg.

Rebekah said, "My mom embroidered a piece that will go on the front of it that says "blessed" because that's what I am."

Gregory said, "We were just blessed. It was that way in Boston and that way in Houston and it’s been that way every day since.”

With her new leg, DiMartino only has one New Year’s resolution, to treasure life to the fullest.
