Boston 2024 Names New CEO

Richard Davey was selected to replace Dan O'Connell

The non-profit group behind the push to bring the Summer Olympics to the Bay State, Boston 2024, has appointed a new CEO.

Richard Davey, who formerly served as the Massachusetts Secretary of Transportation, will aid the groups efforts as it enters the next phase of its Olympic bid.

Davey replaces Dan O'Connell, who helped Boston 2024 during the initial phase of its efforts to bring the Olympic games to Boston.

"Rich Davey is the perfect fit to continue the work that Dan helped launch," said John Fish, Chairman of Boston 2024.

Davey served as the general manager of the MBTA before taking office as the state's Secretary of Transportation.

"His reputation for smart, innovative leadership and management of large and complex transportation systems and projects will be indispensable as we enter this next stage of our efforts," added Fish of Davey.

During his time at the MBTA, Davey helped lead them to their highest ridership in over six decades back in 2011. He's also been recognized both locally and at a national level for his accomplishments. Davey was named the “Man of the Year” in 2013 by the Construction Management Association of America.

"This is a terrific opportunity to build upon all the great work and planning that has already been done," said Davey. "But in many ways this is just the beginning," said Davey on taking over as CEO of Boston 2024.
