Boston Man Sentenced in Human Trafficking Case

A Boston man has been sentenced to seven years in state prison after pleading guilty to human trafficking charges.

Attorney General Maura Healey says 33-year-old Shaun Leoney, of the Dorchester neighborhood, pleaded guilty on Monday to charges that included trafficking of persons for sexual servitude, deriving support from prosecution and failing to register as a sex offender.

In addition to seven years and one day behind bars, Judge Jeffrey Locke sentenced Leoney to five years of probation following his release.

Healey says Leoney coerced women into prosecution and sexually exploited them, while keeping the profits.

Boston Police Commissioner William Evans says his department's human trafficking unit collected evidence for several years.
