Boston Officials Hold Counter-Terrorism Exercise

Boston Police, Homeland Security, and other law enforcement officials organized a counter-terrorism exercise Sunday morning following the deadliest mass shooting in United States history at a night club in Orlando, Florida.

The goal of the previously planned exercise is to prepare law enforcement and Fenway Park personnel in the event of a mass emergency.

The drill will be on-going through 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Parts of Yawkey Way and Van Ness Street will be closed during the exercise. Officials warn the public not to be alarmed by simulated explosions and gunshots.

This comes as a shooter killed approximately 20 people and injured 40 others in an Orlando, Florida, night club early Sunday morning. The incident is being investigated as domestic terrorism.

Lt. Bruce Apotheker told necn that New England officials train to combat these kinds of situations.

"The more training we do the better prepared we are to mitigate any injury or loss of life," Lt. Apotheker said.
