Boston Police Commissioner Wants Guns Off Streets

Thursday, Boston Police Commissioner William Evans gave an update on the state of the department.

Guns, both real and fake, are a key issue for officers in Boston.

"We've been very good at getting guns off the street," said Evans. "We're working hard to make it as safe a summer as we can."

Earlier Thursday, police, clergy and lawmakers spoke of the dangers of replica guns.

"They're so realistic now," Evans said Thursday night. "They look real, they're heavy - they're supposed to look real. And it's troubling because these young kids are out there running around with them, and if they pull a gun, it really puts us in a terrible situation."

Like other leaders, Evans urged parents to prevent children from playing with realistic replicas.
