Man Shot to Death in Boston

A man was killed Friday afternoon in a shooting in Boston's Mattapan neighborhood, police confirm.

Officers responded to Doone Avenue just before 3:30 p.m. The victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police confirmed just after 7 p.m. that the victim is a man in his 40s. The shooting does not appear to be random.

As neighbors were getting home from work, the brazen killing took place right outside their homes. The man was shot several times, and the killer was gone before police arrived.

"Broad daylight," said Boston Police Commissioner William Evans. "Things like this shouldn't be happening any time of the day, but it's always troubling when it happens at 3:20 on a beautiful afternoon."

This is the 18th homicide in Boston this year.
