Boston Police Officer Assaulted; Attack Caught on Camera

A Boston Police officer was attacked in the first few hours of 2016, and the attack was caught on video.

The department shared the footage of the officer being assaulted around 2 a.m. on Friday near Boston City Hall's Dock Square parking garage. It appears to show a man who approached the officer's cruiser and shouted, "you heard about the war, right?"

The man then appears to reach through the cruiser's open window and begin punching the officer in the face, before running away.

Police were able to catch the suspect, 23-year-old Andrew Bowman of Everett, Massachusetts, in the garage and take him into custody.

"You are all doomed, and you're going to die," the suspect said, according to police. "They told me to do this."

The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He was treated and released from a local hospital.

Bowman faces charges including assault and battery on a police officer causing injury, disorderly conduct, trespassing and resisting arrest.
