Boston Red Sox Ink Manager John Farrell to Contract Extension

Farrell's new deal will keep him in Boston through the 2017 season.

The Boston Red Sox have signed manager John Farrell to a contract extension, General Manager Ben Cherington announced Saturday.

Farrell's new deal will keep him in Boston through the 2017 season with a club option for 2018. Farrell is entering his third season as manager of the Red Sox.

Farrell has amassed a 168-156 record over the last two seasons. In 2013, he finished second in American League Manager of the Year voting after coaching the Red Sox to a World Series championship. The team posted a 97-65 record that season.

Prior to signing in Boston, Farell managed the Toronto Blue Jays. He also spent four years as the Red Sox pitching coach from 2007-2010.
