Boston's Museum of Fine Arts Gets New Director

The director of Toronto's Art Gallery of Ontario has been named the new director of Boston's Museum of Fine Arts.

The Boston museum's board of trustees on Thursday elected Matthew Teitelbaum to lead the 145-year-old institution.

The 59-year-old Teitelbaum takes over in August from Malcolm Rogers, who is retiring after 20 years at the helm.

Trustees' chairwoman Lisbeth Tarlow says Teitelbaum was selected from a field of international candidates because of his "vision for how art can change lives and his advocacy for appreciation of the arts across cultures and eras."

Teitelbaum says he looks forward to building on the MFA's long legacy of "people who believed that art can change the world."

The Museum of Fine Arts has an estimated 500,000 works that span all cultures and time periods.
