Brown University Fraternity Suspended After Report of Date Rape Drug, Sexual Assault

The incident reportedly occurred at an Oct. 17 party

A student at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, reported to campus police she was sexually assaulted after she and another student drank an alcoholic punch they believe was laced with a date-rape drug at a fraternity party.

The university's vice president for campus life and student services said in an email that Brown has suspended the group that hosted the Oct. 17 event.

The campus-wide alert was first reported by The Brown Daily Herald.

Providence police say they have not received a report of the alleged assault.

Members of fraternity Phi Kappa Psi wrote in a letter to the campus newspaper they were shocked by what happened. They said they were confident no members of the fraternity were involved, and said the suspension was because it hosted an event with alcohol.
